Universities UK is a limited by guarantee company with charitable status, which was founded in the year 1918. The Universities UK is supported with the help of the members. By 2007 the company has 131 members.
The office of the company consists of four parts: The communications and external relation group, policy development group, research unit, and resources group.
The department of external relations has the main aim to support the members of the company in their interactions and collaborating. Besides, all people can receive in this department all essential information about UK educational system.
The Policy Development Department has the main aim to make researches concerning the policy of higher education in the UK. This department collaborates with government agencies, university agencies and other institutions. This department has close links with Strategy Department and Department of External Relations.
The Research Department is responsible for publications. This department has close relations with Executive Committee.
The Recourses Department is responsible for personnel, membership issues and finance.
The president of the company is elected for two years by the members of UK Universities. The President is responsible for the links of the company with government bodies, industry and commerce institution, professional bodies, education sector and international institutions.
The Strategy Group creates and develops long – term policy. The members of the UK Universities are executive heads of UK educational institutions.
The main office of UK Universities has also autonomous councils in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England. Each part of UK has its own representative in the main office.
The members elect besides the president also treasurer and three vice-presidents. Besides, the president offers the candidatures of 6 members of Board. Board is the main executive body which makes all important decisions and meets several times a year.
The executive department of the company consists of President, three vice- presidents and treasurer.
